State-Sponsored Professional Development for Teachers
SB472, the Mathematics and Reading Professional Development Program, funds districts to provide teachers with 120 hours or professional development in state board-approved instructional materials, including California Gateways. The initial 40-hour (5-day) institute from Action Learning Systems includes a study of the Reading/Language Arts Framework for California Public Schools, especially those sections discussing the needs of intensive intervention students. The organization of each component of California Gateways—with a focus on content standards, instructional strategies, and research—will be thoroughly understood by the participants by the end of the institute. Participants will have time to plan, practice, and discuss California Gateways so that they are prepared to appropriately implement California Gateways in their classrooms and support their students' mastery of content standards. |
